ANTI-OLYMPIC FASHION...

The Olympics are like Marmite, you either love 'em or you hate 'em. We have to admit we've started to enjoy the hype a little, although that's mainly due to all of the food and drink offerings coming on the scene.

We were however impressed by these "Anti-Olympic" bags and t-shirts which are doing the rounds. Especially the "It Only Took Me 3 Hours To Get To Work This Morning" - let's just hope it doesn't Boris or we might not be so impressed.  Available for just £15.

STYLE TALK: JAMES WRIGHT

James is the guy behind recently opened vintage clothing store MINT which relocated from Soho to Stoke Newington - he obviously knows where it's at. We had a quick chat to talk about moving his shop East, how to find good vintage and a delve into his 12 years experience on how to gain the best out of London Town.

US: So tell me about your life in London & work?

JAMES: Well I suppose my life in London is my work. Ive been here for 12 years and have been self employed all that time and as most people, paying the bills is the primary function. I don't have kids and seem to be a committed bachelor so my free time is spent with mates either on some wheels or in a bar {simple folk we are}. Galleries and Art fairs float my boat, I'm in ore of these people who can create such impressive images with their hands and minds.

US: So u have moved from Covent garden to Stokie Newington or should I say "the Cool and up coming area of London" how u finding it ?

JAMES: I was in the West End for seven years, costs went up and the recession hit, tough times for all I suppose. I've lived in stokie throughout my time in London so it seemed to make sense, especially as it is changing so I'm generally happy with the move, I love my shop and my website should be ready this week, to build the brand is my focus now!

US: Any tips u can give us when we're looking for vintage clothes?

JAMES: Take a good friend and you should be able to trust the staff in the shop! Take lots into the changing room and be patient, it is a journey not to look like a lemming.

US: So any favourite hideouts that you have eaten in that we need to know about?

JAMES: Lots, probably too many... A Little Bit Of What You Fancy, Kingsland Road; Island Queen a great pub in Islington; the Pride of Spitalfield pub just off Brick Lane; Palm Tree a lovely pub on the canal in Whitechapel; Fred and Fran a coffee shop in Stokie; the French House pub in Soho; St Johns my favourite restaurant in London and Trianglia a tapas joint at Newington Green, serving great food and wine.

You weren't kidding, that's a whole load of recommendations right there! If you want to meet James and check out his store MINT which sells men's & women's vintage at reasonable prices then head to 71 - 73 Stoke Newington High Street, N16.

H&M POP UP AND CONCEPT STORE...

Cashing in on the London Olympic happenings is high street fashion merchants H&M, who have recently opened a pop up store at Covent Garden and a concept store at Westfield, Stratford. The purpose, to celebrate their latest sports collection. Now for a minute we over looked this slightly, when we watch boxing or say swimming do we get kitted up just to watch in front of the TV, then we though ah well we do have a friend who watches the tour de France in his full cycling gear, shoes and everything so yeah maybe people do. The Covent Garden pop up has an old school retro feel and uses plenty of retro gym equipment. Both stores cater for men, ladies and kids for you to get yourself kitted out in some sexy new sportswear, whether you’re participating or watching the TV.

SALON SPY: COMO SHAMBHALA @ THE MET

Whilst some hotel spas maybe just be an add of the hotel's services, the COMO Shambhala Urban Escape at The Metropolitan hotel is a destination in its own right. Located on the second floor of the hotel it's the kind of place you walk into, tell them you have an appointment and they already know your name. That kind of services adds to the luxury experience of the well equipped spa which has changing rooms with showers, ample therapy rooms and a large reception area.

We recently tried the Dr Perricone Performance Facial which is a deep cleansing, nourishing and firming facial using Dr Perricone products, which are exclusive to Como Shambhala in London. The facial lasts 75 minutes and includes a shoulder, arm and hand massage as well as various facial scrubs, masks and massages including a lotion made from fish cells.

Our therapist was very experienced and in the past we've usually had steam applied, however she noticed our skin was fairly dry already and missed out the steaming stage to avoid further drying out. The treatment was relaxing and rejuvenating, and after 75 minutes of pruning we left with plump, juicy skin and a bottle of Dr Perricone's No Foundation, Foundation. This product is perfect for those who don't wear foundation and even find tinted moisturisers too heavy as it feels feather light but gives a good amount of coverage.

The facial isn't cheap but worth every penny, and with robes and slippers on hand you really get the full spa experience rather than just a beauty salon visit.

SHESAIDBEAUTY.COM...

We've come across product subscription boxes before, but never seen one which is linked to a social networking experience. SheSaidBeauty.com is just that, you sign up online, pay a fee and in return you receive a monthly Beauty Discovery Box. Once you have received the box and tried the products, you log onto the website and compare, review and recommend.

Every member has their own profile. We recently received June's box which contained a decent sized tube of Saint Tropez Gradual Tan Moisturiser and Elemis Spa Home Bath Oil, a small sample of Yardley Royal Diamond perfume and some Let’s Go false eyelashes.

The boxes cost £9 + £2.95 postage and come with five handpicked beauty products - there's nothing quite like getting a surprise in the post is there? Especially when it arrives in a beautifully wrapped box. A subscription would make a great birthday present for your bessie.

SALON SPY: TOMMY GUNS...

Hot shot barbers Tommy Guns recently opened a branch on Regent Street, on the ground floor of the SuperDry flagship store. Friday night meant LondOnTheInside was up for a barnet chop. Hidden away from street level the underground salon is quite spectacular. The marble floors and walls, chrome finishings and theatrical spotlights make this 1930’s style barbers one art décor little haunt. They even have the original chairs.

Enjoying the stunning features whilst waiting for hair stylist, Kimi, it felt more like being in a museum than a hair salon. Half expecting Willy Wonker to emerge from a door we sipped our complimentary beverage and flicked through Men’s Health trying to memorise a new routine for ‘Mark Wahlberg arms’.

Talking through what we wanted ‘doing’ our stylist listened and then described how to tackle the job, the process and why this would benefit our style. Over at the basin an assistant washed and conditioned our hair while we bantered about festivals, though the head massage did make the conversation slow as our eyes closed in delight.

The cutting was swift and precise, checking for consistency of length, probing my approval and asking if what was being done was, what was intended. Blown dry it was time for styling which included some product recommendations for home use. Voilà it was done, an ace job, enjoyable and relaxing. We’d definitely go back again. The branch also has a beauty parlour for the ladies where you can indulge in some nail porn, we didn’t ask. A men’s cut and finish will set you back just under 40 English where as women’s is slightly higher at £50. Pop in for a nosey and get a free quotation, it’s worth a look and a cut.
