STYLE TALK: BEN GROVE

Ben Grove is a pro skateboarder from Manchester who also doubles up as a fashion model having worked for the likes of Pretty Green and Vans. Ben got into skateboarding a fair few years ago and he is in his own words "Mad for it". We caught up with Ben on one of his many visits to London to find out a little more about what floats his boat...

Us: You have modelled for a range of brands, but what do you wear on your days off?

Ben: I love all kinds of fashion and when I'm out and about I mainly wear smart clothes and I'm really into mod suits and shirts. However when I'm skating I rock a Zukie tee shirt. Zukieclothing was set up by my good friends and I now work closely with them, you can check out the full collection on the website http://www.zukieclothing.com/

Us: So when you're suited and booted where do you go to show off your outfits?

Ben: The best night club in Manchester has to be South Nightclub on South King Street. Clint Boon's been putting on a Saturday night there for years now so if you're in the city go and check out! Boon army! You should also check the Norther Quarter which has lots of nice bars, cool shops and good food joints.

Us: We're big fans of Manchester so we just might do that! And where do you go when you leave Manchester?

Ben: I would definitely say Cuba has been the best place I have visited. The weather, the chilled out lifestyle and friendly people make it an amazing place. Apart from that I'm a big fan of London, Stockwell in Brixton has a mega skate park and the bars in Shoreditch are all pretty good.

There you have it, Ben Grove pro skater and if you fancy seeing more of Ben check out some of the skating videos online...

WONDERHILL MARKET...

Vintage and craft markets are more popular than ever, with new events popping up all over London all the time. The Wonder Hill Market has been running since November 2010, an outlet for local creatives and artists situated a stones throw from London Bridge.

The stallholders here focus on handmade and locally sourced products, eschewing the mass-produced products available on the high street and other markets. It prides itself on a relaxed atmosphere and strong sense of community between the stallholders.

Taking place on the last Saturday of each month, the next market is coming up on 30th June at their usual home at The Miller on Snowsfield Road near London Bridge. Following this, a special one-off event is coming up at Keston Lodge, Upper St, Islington on July 8th. Doors open at 11.30am, so go ahead and pop down to support some local artists and craftspeople!

Sat 30th June, 11:30am - 5pm

ROUND UP OF MEN'S LONDON FASHION WEEK 2012

This month marked a turning point in men's fashion, something which is now so important it has it's very own London Fashion Week. We caught up with Chris Preston Editor of men's fashion magazine HERO to get a round-up of the very first MLFW...

Us: So Chris we guess this has been pretty exciting for you! Which shows did you catch?

Chris: I saw most of the shows across the weekend, now that menswear in London has finally got more than one day at the end of LFW, but for me the shows that I most remember are Katie Eary, Christopher Shannon, and Sibling. There's nothing as refreshing as seeing a designer genuinely happy and bouncing down the catwalk to the end of their show, which was the case with Katie Eary, it brought a lot of smiles and laughs to the crowd which as I said, is refreshing as at most shows its shades on, smiles off!

Us: So are there any new designers we need to keep an eye out for?

Chris: I think before, because its only been one day for the menswear shows in London its easy to miss out on some new designers, but now that more can do a catwalk its great that a designer like Matthew Miller who has been around for a bit is finally getting the exposure he deserves. One new and up coming designer I think need to keep an eye out for is Xander Zhou, who for someone who has never shown at the mens shows before, produced a sleek and interesting collection that displayed a twist on the traditional men's tailoring that we are so used to seeing at the London mens shows.

Us:What about trends, are there anything we need to be buying now?

Chris: There's quite a few things that seemed to pop up for next season, firstly it was the amount of sportswear and I'm not talking about trackies and wifebeater tops, but shows like Christopher Shannon, Astrid Andersen and Christopher Raeburn all showed a 'sporty' collection with a fresh take on it. One other hot trend that was hard to miss was the amount of bold colours and prints at shows such as Katie Eary, E.Tautz and Jonathan Saunders. As for what's not, I don't like to name and shame but any collection that teams jeans with a polo shirt with the collar turned up and then a blazer in my eyes isn't really a) fashionable and b) innovative (unless you're going out on the town in Essex).

So there you have it s summary of the very first ever Men's London Fashion Week. Roll on September when the next one comes round!

PRODUCT LOVE: LET'S GO LASHES

Summer is here which means festival season is up us and we all want to look our best, even when we don't have access to a fully functional bathroom. That's where Let's Go Lashes come in, the semi-permanent, individual lash treatment last for up to 2 weeks which means you eyes look fabulous even when you've just got out of bed!

We went to the Harley Street salon to have ours applied, and because the whole process took just 20 minutes we were able to pop in our dinner hour. The lashes were pretty durable and even though we were quite poor with our aftercare our lashes still lasted 10 days. We choose to have our lashes looking natural rather than OTT and were more than happy with the results.

The Let's Go Lashes cost £50 and if you need a quick fix they also make strip lashes for home use in four ranges: Flirt, Tease, Temptress and Heartbreaker. Sexy lashes with minimal effort? We're in!

WESCO KICKMASTER...

OMG, it’s here. The excitement broke our ‘gym face’ – the pre gym mind set we try to focus on after work to get us in there. The box stood outside our HQ just waiting to be opened. It’s not everyday you get uber excited about a kitchen bin is it? why would you, they normally stink and it’s a chore to empty. Not anymore. The Wesco Kickmaster is, if we do say so ourselves, one sexy retro piece of art, yes we just called a kitchen bin art. The pedal activates the opening not to raise its lid like every other conventional kitchen waste disposal but its shiny aluminium doors part like the entrance of a gateway on a spaceship - if only there was dry ice escaping from its black hole every time. They come in a variety of colours and sizes too, best to shop around for prices. Someone mentioned it looks like an inflatable penis, they are wildly inaccurate and obviously need to clear out their cupboards.

PRODUCT LOVE: KERASTRAIGHT

Recent research found that due to this wet, damp weather we are having (aka the British Summer) sales of anti-frizz products for hair had risen dramatically, as had sales of Asda woolly jumpers but we'll leave that one alone. Suffering too from the frizz dilemma we went in search of a product for our stressed out locks and stumped upon KeraStraight's new Intense Boost Treatment.

Intense Boost by KeraStraight is available in two types - Protein and Moisture - we went for the moisture mask as we were in need of some serious TLC. The mask is available in salons and for home use, and doesn't everyone want that salon look at home? Suitable for all hair types the mask can be used as a weekly leave on treatment before shampooing - we went one further and slept in the mask.

Once we'd washed we are happy to report our hair was smooth, manageable and frizz-free, just like in the commercials. The treatment costs £25 for a 100ml tub to take home and is available in 1000 salons nationwide costing from £25 (plus blow dry). If you're finding this weather is affecting your hair or you need a pre-holiday shine give it a go.

JO MALONE...

Luxury fragrance house Jo Malone has opened a flagship store in Covent Garden, the brand's biggest standalone UK boutique to date.  We have to admit we are big fans of the brand and love it when the boyfriend rocks up carrying one of their trademark cardboard bags with black silk ribbon. Like the packaging the store is simple and chic with the recognisable cream, white and black stripes, clean cut lines and corners.

The store also has a salon bar which can be booked for personalised fragrance matching, during which customers also receive a complimentary 15 minute hand and arm massage. This Summer Jo Malone have created two Limited Edition fragrances; Plum Blossom Cologne and Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense. Ideal if you are looking for an exclusive fragrance for a wedding or special event.
