SALON SPY: JAMIE STEVENS

There's a new salon on the London scene and it's the work of celebrity hairdresser Jamie Stevens. The salon is located in Kensington, set back from the main High Street, in the heart of celebsville. Inside is simple and stylish and feels less formal and more welcoming than other neighbouring salons, plus it's not just Jamie's name on the door he actually works there too.

We visited for a quick maintenance trim and blow dry the day after Jamie was nominated for British Hairdresser of the Year, something which is pretty impressive given his young age. As it happens Jamie has quite the CV, he has worked on Gok Wan's Fashion Fix, X Factor, This Morning and many other TVs - we were actually quite honoured to have his hands on our mop.

Whilst we just had a trim Jamie was happy to dish out advice on how best to style our hair at home and gave us a pretty swish blow dry before we left. If you are looking for a new hairdresser we suggest you check out the salon, plus as an incentive new clients receive 25% off - the perfect excuse for a new do!

SALON SPY: YOUR BEAUTIFUL

Like most we love a good spa treatment, a wax here and there and a pedicure or manicure every now and then. Sometimes we like to go all out and treat ourselves to a luxury spa with first class pampering services and other times (just before payday!) we just want a quick, cheap fix. Your Beautiful provides us with exactly this, having opened just two months ago the basic salon knocks out cheap, good treatments for when you're time and money short.

Eyebrow waxing is priced at just £6 and gel nails cost just £22 a set and they actually lasted longer and were even better than the last salon ones we had that cost over £40 for them. What's more if you break a nail within 24 hours after the treatment they will fix them free of charge. Great results, cheap prices and no fuss. As James Blunt would say, Your Beautiful its true....

STYLE TALK: MEET HANNAH

Hannah Elwell is a freelance Stylist working for a wide range of editorial and commercial clients. Hannah began her career by assisting Stylists before going on to work at GQ Style as a Fashion Assistant, a role which she left in 2010 to pursue a freelance career which so far has led her on a fabulous journey. We managed to catch a few words with the lady herself....

Us: As a Stylist you must work with some great brands, which ones are your favourites?

Hannah: Agghh, quite a few stand out for me! Comme des Garcons is a label that I have much admired as it is progressive and experimental and has stayed true to Rei Kawakubo’s vision since she founded the label. It’s a great brand to use editorially, as for me it makes a strong visual impact.

Balenciaga is a brand I have fallen in love with especially his quirky take on footwear. I love the fact that as a concept it’s a brand that in design can look quite futuristic on the runway but is actually wearable in everyday life. It has always been an inventive label with modern use of fabrics and techniques and is one that I love to use and experiment with myself. Alexander McQueen fascinated me growing up and his was the one show I would always look forward to hearing about. I liked that his reputation was surrounded by controversy, and was always full of drama and lavishness on the catwalk. It was like being a part of a show and not just a routine catwalk.

Us: That's a lot of food for thought and talking of food, where's your favourite place for food?

Hannah: Whenever me and my boyfriend are looking for somewhere a little special I always, always go to the Modern Pantry. I keep meaning to try new places but because the food is so amazing there I usually find myself going back time and time again.

Us: Well that solves that then! Food aside what's your favourite cocktail & where do u go to drink?

Hannah: A Long Island Iced Tea or a Mojito does the job and I only need a couple to get me swinging from the chandeliers. Yum Yum's in Stoke Newington do some delicious cocktails. I like to drink fairly locally so I'll normally be found on Church Street or at The Shacklewell Arms every Friday.

Us: And when you aren't drinking and eating where do you go for somewhere to relax?

Hannah: I actually find it really hard to chill in London because there are so many great events happening all of the time. I am quite lucky that I live in quite a green area so I will tend to go to London Fields or Clissold Park with friends if I want a bit of escapism. If it's a dreary day I'll go to The Three Crowns and make use of their huge, comfy sofas and catch up on work.

LABEL M...

We recently discovered Label M products which are created by Toni & Guy and used in all of their salons. The idea behind the products is that you can create the salon look at home. We've been trying a selection of the products including the new Therapy Age-Defying products (not that we're old or anything!).

Our favourite product is the Recovery Mask which works a treat in this damp weather and keeps our mane slick and shiny! The treatment suggests leaving the mask on for a short time but we've found sleeping with it in our mop works wonders.

We've also tested the Label M Brunette Dry Shampoo which was launched earlier this year, a dry shampoo which actually comes out brown and doesn't make your hair look like you've just been doing the decorating! Expensive at £10.50 but perfect if you're going straight out from work. Whilst the Label M Miracle Fibre is great for adding texture and volume to the hair without weighing it down. Try them people...

SIENNAX...

SiennaX offer fake tanning products that you'd expect to find in beauty salon online for home use - OK OK we get it at the moment you may not feel much enthusiasm at the thought of revealing those pins as you look out at the rain pouring and pouring outside but come on it can't rain forever can it?

In belief that the sun will shine once more we went to meet the ladies behind SiennaX to hear more about the range and yes we've got to give it to them they appear to have thought of all of our tanning needs! Firstly comes preparation which can be found in the form of a polishing body scrub. Tip 1: Exfoliation is key so girls ( and boys) exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!

Next comes the application, SiennaX offer a gradual glowing self tan which comes in two shades and has an anti cellulite formula - say goodbye to that orange peel! We tried and we have to admit that unlike your average fake tan products SiennaX actually smells pretty nice too - nothing more tell-tale then the whiff of the fakey! The tan takes 6 - 8 hours to develop although we were advised to apply before bed, sleep, then wash in the morning to reveal your perfect summer glow.

OK so now for tips number 2 to 5....

Tip 2 - Make sure you wash your hands post application this will avoid streaks; Tip 3 - moisturise those problem areas before, after and during application ; Tip 4 - problems when it come to reaching the back? Ideally rope in the help of a boyfriend/flatmate/best mate but when else fails reach out for the cling film. OK this may sound a bit weird but it actually makes sense when you think about it: tear off a piece big enough to wrap around itself three times. Apply the tan to the film and rub across the back as though it where a towel! Voila - the perfectly tanned back - well maybe not perfect but at least its not milk bottle white; Tip 5 - You may want to wear loose fitting gloves/socks whilst sleeping to avoid nasty smudging!

The end result; you should wake looking and more importantly (according to the girls at SiennaX) feeling like a goddess! To prolong the tan use SiennaX radiance body balm to not only moisturise but add a touch of sparkle too because we all know a touch of sparkle never hurt anyone…apparently.
